After facing multiple revolts, Capt Amarinder Singh resigns from his post of Punjab Chief Minister. The key political development came after speculations of a no-confidence motion against Capt were aired.
“Submitted my resignation to Hon'ble Governor,” said Capt Amarinder Singh on Twitter.

Enraged Capt Amarinder spoke to party president Sonia Gandhi and said that ‘this is the third time MLAs have been summoned such a way,’ he went to say that recent developments indicate “party High Command has doubts on my leadership.”
“I feel humiliated by the way talks transpired. I spoke with the Congress president this morning, told them that I will be resigning today. This is the third time in recent months in meeting MLAs, which is why I decided to quit,” said Amarinder Singh after resigning as Punjab CM.
“I am in the Congress. Will consult with my supporters and decide the future course of action,” he added as speculation of him quitting the party was aired, earlier.
When asked about his future course of action, Capt Amarinder said, "Future politics is always an option and I will definitely opt that at a right time".

Now sources claim, former Punjab PCC chief Sunil Kumar Jakhar could be appointed as the new CM. An announcement regarding the new leader will be made in the Congress Legislature Party meeting.
Sunil Jakhar's nomination could be motivated by the desire to create a combination of a Hindu Sikh chief minister and a Jat Sikh president of the Punjab Congress. Jakhar, on the other hand, is not an MLA. Navjot Singh Sidhu himself could be put forward by Sidhu's camp for the role of the chief minister.
“Anything can happen, the situation is very serious,” said an AICC senior leader.
