IMD issues heatwave warning for Punjab till May 1; rain & storm likely in some areas

According to the update, on May 1, several districts might witness thundering, lightning, and conditions like strong winds.

A new warning has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, under which it mentioned that maximum districts of Punjab will be dealing with severe heatwave till May 1, 2025. 

According to the update, on May 1, several districts might witness thundering, lightning, and conditions like strong winds. These conditions are expected to be reported in the districts near Himachal Pradesh. However, apart from this, heatwaves will continue to prevail in other districts. 

Date-wise details of weather updates across several districts of Punjab - 

Day 1, April 28: The northern districts of Punjab, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur, will witness normal weather, whereas southern districts, including Fazilka, Bathinda, and Faridkot, will witness an increase in temperature and heatwave. 

Day 2, April 29: The majority of the states have been warned for the yellow alert. 

Day 3, April 30: The yellow alert will continue, but the weather conditions are expected to improve a bit in some parts of the northern and eastern parts. 

Day 4, May 1: It is expected that there will be no weather warning in half of the state on May 1, but the southern districts will still be facing the warning. 

May 1 might come with some rain - 

According to the latest update by the IMD, there is some chance that the weather will change on May 1. Accordingly, there might be light to moderate rain, thunder, and strong winds. This change in weather will be seen in districts bordering Himachal Pradesh, which will directly impact the mercury and cause temperature to drop.
