As we say history is not created in a day, but a day can bring several changes in history. June 20th in Indian history has some real course changing events. These events have changed the future of the world. 

Take a read on some historic events that happened on June 20 in India.  

1756:- About 146 British soldiers were captured by Sirad ud-Daulah's (Nawab of Bengal) men and the British prisoners were kept in a small dark chamber that is called the Blackhole of Calcutta. Almost 123 Britishers died in the cell due to suffocation, heat exhaustion and crushing in confined situations.

1837:- Queen Victoria succeeds the British throne. 

1921:- A four-month-long strike began by the workers in the Spinning Department of the Buckingham and Carnatic Mills in Chennai. The workers have issues like low wages and poor working conditions and despite repeated protest, their issues were ignored. Mr V. Kalyanasundaram Mudaliar (Congressman) has led the protest and this protest was supported by various nationalists.

1840:- Samuel Morse was given the patent of Telegraph. 

1887:- the busiest railway station in India - Victoria Terminus was opened in Bombay today. 

1990:- Asteroid Eureka was discovered.

1869:- Founder of Kirloskar Group Laxmanrao Kashinath Kirloskar was born on June 20 in a small village called Gurlahosur in Belgaum District. His interest in art and painting led him to study the same in Bombay. He came to know that he was colour blind, however, he continued his studies in Mechanical Drawing and became a teacher in the same field. His hard work paid off and he built his company named Kirloskar Group headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra, which deals in the production of pumps, compressors, electrical motors etc.

1985:- Mother Teresa was honoured with The Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian decoration; the medal was presented by President Ronald Reagan.

1952:- Indian novelist and poet Vikram Seth was born on this day in Kolkata. Seth has various degrees in literature and economics from universities like Oxford and Stanford. He is the recipient of several honorary civilian awards such as Padma Shri, Sahitya Akademi Award, Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, WH Smith Literary Award and Crossword Book Award etc. His popular works include A Suitable Boy, The Golden Gate, An Equal Music, A Suitable Girl.
