Passengers and crew members were hurriedly evacuated from a Cochin-bound Air India flight at the airport of Oman’s national capital in Muscat after the aircraft engine was engulfed with smoke earlier today.

The officials informed the media that no casualties took place and all on board were evacuated safely.

Arun Kumar of Director General of Civil Aviation, while talking to the press on the matters said, smoke and fire was noticed in engine no. 2 of the Air India Express Boeing 737-800 Muscat to Cochin flight during the taxiing for take-off.

However, a few people have sustained bruises while attempting to get down the slide, said an Air India spokesperson based in Kochi.

The officials from DGCA said the smoke alarms didn’t go off, fortunately, it caught the attention of a crew member who raised the alarm and averted the chaos as if anything might have happened.

An investigation will be initiated into the matter to reach a consensus as to what might have led to the smoke.
