Ind-Pak border tensions; 430 flights cancelled, 27 airports to stay closed until May 10

Following Operation Sindoor, Indian domestic carriers cancelled nearly 430 flights on Thursday, which is close to three per cent of the total flights scheduled in the country, as 27 airports remain closed until May 10.

After India successfully carried out Operation Sindoor, domestic carriers cancelled around 430 flights on Thursday, which is nearly three percent of the total scheduled flights in the country, as 27 airports remain shut till May 10.

According to data from flight tracking platform Flightradar24, airspace over Pakistan and the western corridor of India was largely free of civilian aircraft.

Airspace above Pakistan and the western shoulder of India between Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir was civilian air traffic-free as airlines avoided the sensitive area," the portal reported, which provided live flight path information and cancellation statistics.

The affected airports are Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Halwara, Pathankot, Bhuntar, Shimla, Gaggal, Dharamsala, Kishangarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Mundra, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Kandla, Keshod, Bhuj, Gwalior, and Hindon.

On Wednesday, over 300 flights were cancelled, and operations at 21 airports in northern and western India were halted.

In an X post, Air India stated that its contact centers are witnessing high call volumes at present.

For passengers whose flights have been affected due to the prevailing disruptions, Air India is providing a full cancellation refund and a one-time waiver on rebooking charges. This is for tickets purchased on the affected flights up to 10th May, 2025," said the airline.

Air India has further added that it appreciates the selfless service and devotion of our defence and military personnel.

"In the current scenario, for the staff members who have defense fares and are scheduled on Air India and Air India Express flights until 31 May 2025, we are providing a full refund on cancellation and a one-time waiver on rescheduling flights until 30 June 2025 to accommodate their duty requirements," Air India stated.

IndiGo told travelers that its flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, and Dharamsala were being impacted as a result of fluctuating airspace conditions.
