India's COVID-19 cases cross 56 lakh mark with a spike of 83K new cases, death toll reaches to 90K

With a fatality rate of 1.59 percent, India now has 9.68 lakh active COVID cases

In the last 24 hours, India has reported 83,527new COVID cases crossing a mark of 56 lakh while more than 90,000 people lost their lives to this infection. Sikkim CM's wife also tested positive for COVID-19. 

According to the Health Ministry's Covid-19 data, India has recorded 83,527 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours taking the tally to 56-lakh mark. With 89,746 patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the number of recoveries is still high as compared to the number of infections. The total number of deaths reported in the last 24 hours is 1,085 while the number of recoveries stands at 45,87,613 by far. India has an overall recovery rate of 81.25 percent. 

With a fatality rate of 1.59 percent, India now has 9.68 lakh active COVID cases. Since August, India has been recording the highest number of new cases in the world, every day. An average of 90k cases per day has been recorded in September alone. According to the Health Ministry, the testing capacity has increased to more than 12 lakh tests per day. By far, more than 6.5 crore Covid-19 tests have been conducted across the country. 

Bharat Biotech is planning to start the phase-3 clinical trial of its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin in October to test its safety and efficacy. The company plans to test the vaccine on out 25,000 - 30,000 people in phase -3.

Assam reported 2,072 new  Covid-19 cases and eight deaths yesterday while Pune recorded 3,291 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours. The city has 2,57,797 total cases, including 5,870 deaths.

With 1,275 people tested positive, Jharkhand's Covie-19 number rose to 73,948 today. 15 people died today making the total number of deaths to 641. Jharkhand now has 13,280 active COVID cases.

Delhi is the sixth-worst COVID hit city with 4,000 new cases arising every day. 

Maharashtra remains the badly hit COVID state. With over 12.42 lakh Covid-19 cases. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh are amongst the highest number of cases after Maharashtra. 

"Carbon Monoxide and Methane could give rise to severe respiratory problems, which will further worsen the COVID-19 situation," said Sanjeev Nagpal, an advisor to the Union and Punjab Government as the stubble burning season will start soon in North India. 

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) on Tuesday said that they will opt for a pre-flight Covid-19 test for its passengers before departure. This will be an alternative to quarantine measures to re-establish global air connectivity 

Sikkim Chief Minister's Prem Singh Tamang's wife Krishna Rai has been tested Covid-19 positive along with some of her family members. 

9,53,683 Covid-19 test samples were tested on 22nd September, says ICMR.

Telangana recorded 2,296 new cases including 10 deaths today. Virus cases have increased up to 1,77,070 of which 29,873 active cases. 55,892 samples have been tested and the number of patients discharged is 2,062. 

Mizoram reported 22 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, making it a total of 1,713 in the state. With a total number of 690 active cases, 1,023 people have been discharged.
