Indiareported 2,17,353 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the biggestsingle-day spike ever, taking the overall tally to 14,291,917 cases on Friday,according to the Health Ministry data.

Thisis the second consecutive day that the country has registered over 2 lakhcases. On Thursday, the number was 2,00,739.

Indiahas been the world's worst-hit country since April 2, forcing various states toimpose strict curbs to control the virus.

Thefive most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka,Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Alsoin the last 24 hours, there were 1,185 new Covid-19 fatalities, the secondconsecutive day with over a thousand deaths.

Thistook the overall death toll in the country to 1,74,308. Meanwhile,the daily active cases tally on Friday rose to 15,69,743.

Atotal of 1,18,302 patients recovered in the same time span, taking the numberof recoveries to 1,25,47,866, with a recovery rate of 88.31 per cent.

TheHealth Ministry said that a total of 14,73,210 samples were tested in the last24 hours.

Sofar, 26,34,76,625 samples have been tested in the country.

Accordingto the government data, a total of 27,30,359 people were also vaccinated in thesame period, taking the total inoculation count to 11,72,23,509.
