India’s active Covid cases continue to shrink, record over 4,22,436 discharges

A total of 18,44,53,149 people have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 in India.

India on Tuesday has reported 2,63,533 new cases of Covid-19, another grim record with 4,329 Covid patients dying in the last 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, the country saw a total of 4,22,436 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 2,15,96,512. The total active cases in the country have reached 2,52,28,996, with 33,53,765 active cases, while the death toll has mounted to 2,78,719. 

A total of 18,44,53,149 people have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 in India.

India for the second consecutive day reported less than 3 lakh cases. 

Over 25 lakh Covid cases have been recorded and more than 32,000 patients have died in the country in a week since May 11. The country since April 28 has been recording over 3,000 deaths. 

However, yesterday, India recorded less than 3 lakh cases for the first time since April 21.

On Monday, PM Modi had an interaction with a group of doctors from across the nation to discuss the Covid situation. Thanking the medical fraternity in a statement, Modi said that challenges of oxygen production and supply are being overcome.

Nineteen oxygen generation plants, 11,321 oxygen concentrators, 15,801 oxygen cylinders and about 5.5 lakh Remdesivir vials received as global aid have been delivered or dispatched to various states and union territories from April 27 to May 16, the Centre on Monday informed. The country has been receiving international cooperation for Covid-19 relief, medical supplies and equipment since April 27 from different nations and organisations. 

On Monday The White House said that the United States will continue assisting India and announced a USD 100 million worth of COVID-19 assistance to India. 

"The President is, of course, keeping abreast of the COVID pandemic - how it's impacting different regions in the world, including our important partners in India. And he has been deeply engaged as we've made determinations about the type of relief and assistance that we can and should provide," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

Plasma therapy for covid patients has been dropped by the government from its list. The national Covid task force decided as the experimental procedure was found to be ineffective in reducing the progression of the disease or fatalities. In another development, several bleeding and clotting events following covid vaccine injection in India has been reported known as  "minuscule" and "in line with the expected number of diagnoses", a panel on AEFI (adverse events following immunisation) told the Union Health Ministry Monday afternoon.
