After the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, his fans and close ones were continuously raising questions about the investigation by Punjab Police. The Mann government then handed over the charge to DGP Gaurav Yadav.

After Moosewala's murder, sharpshooters Mannu Kussa and Jagroop Roopa left Haryana's sharpshooters Fauji and Ankit Sersa. They said that they would stay in Punjab.

It was gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria who get these two sharpshooters in the Lawrence gang. To know their whereabouts, Punjab Police brought him to Punjab from Tihar jail. During the interrogation of Jaggu, the police got an indication that both of them are hiding somewhere in Punjab.

When the police started checking the CCTVs, both of them were seen on the CCTV of a village, Samalsar on June 21. Both of them were going on a stolen bike. Meanwhile, gangster Paramadlip Pamma was caught in Mohali who was in touch with the absconding sharpshooters Mannu and Roopa. From there the police started their surveillance.

The police start preparing for the entire operation. Apart from Anti Gangster Task Force, Special Operation Cell, Organized Crime Control Unit, and Amritsar Police also reached the spot. Gangsters Jagroop Singh Roopa and Manpreet Singh Mannu had planned to escape to Pakistan on the advice of Goldy Brar. Both were in touch with Pakistan-based gangster terrorist Harvinder Rinda.

Therefore,  both of them reached the border village Gulalipur to cross the India-Pakistan International Border. There the Punjab Police put a trap. From there it left Gulalipur in both Thar and Corolla. Later they hide in a house in Bhakna Kalan's Hoshiar Nagar.

The India-Pakistan International Border is just 12 kilometers away from the place where both the gangsters have been killed by the police. Punjab Police surrounded the house from 2 km area in civil uniform as soon as Roopa and Mannu went inside. Police started vacating the nearby houses.
