International Essential Oil Day (IEOD) is celebrated on 11th July (since 2018). The usage and value of essential oils have been increased for the last 25 years. Essential oils are extracted from various plants due to which they are pure and effective.
IEOD was created in the year 2018, this idea was developed by Jared Turner, president and COO of Young Living. 11th July was selected because on this, it is the birthday of the founder of Young Living, D. Gary Young.
Essential oils have many benefits like increased calmness, reduction of anxiety, more pleasant sleep, improved mood and one of the most significant benefits is ‘Aromatherapy.’
What is Aromatherapy and how it works?
In aromatherapy, aromatic essential oils are used for sensory and therapeutic benefits. The (aromatic) molecules enter through the nasal passage and go to the limbic system, which supports a variety of functions such as emotions, behavior, motivation, and long-term memory.
Below are the four ways therapists incorporate aromatherapy in the routines of patients:
1. Diffusers: It is commonly used in patient rooms. A diffuser is a device that turns the liquid oil (distilled water and a few drops of essential oil) into cold vapor which automatically disperses in the air. This helps in the improvement of short-term memory and mood.
2.) Felt Patch: Essential oils are directly placed on a patch, attached to an article of clothing (without skin contact).
3.) Linen Spray: Linen spray is used on the cloth item present in the patient’s surroundings. Most, linen spray is used before going to bedtime as this spray acts as a catalyst in a peaceful, calming night’s sleep.
4.) Clay Necklace: Essential oils are rubbed on the aromatherapy jewelry including pendants.
