Internet services have been restored in Kargil in the Union Territory of Ladakh after a long stretch of 145 days.
Internet was snapped in Kargil on August 5 when the government abrogated Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The services were restored in view of complete normalcy returning to Kargil, with no untoward incident taking place over the past four months, the officials said. They said local religious leaders have appealed to people not to misuse the facility.
Broadband services were already functional in Kargil. This is a major development and comes shortly after the government ordered the withdrawal of over 7,000 Paramilitary troops deployed in Kashmir after a period of over four months.

While Internet services have been restored in Ladakh, there is no clarity or update on when internet services will be fully restored in Kashmir.
There is also no confirmation on when the detained leaders in Kashmir Valley will be released.
