In a bizarre incident, a woman was shot in the head by a Uttar Pradesh Police personnel 'mistakenly' who visited the Police station for Passport verification queries. Yes! you heard it right. The shocking incident took place on Friday when the woman went to the Police station and was mistakenly shot in the head with a pistol belonging to a Sub-Inspector (SI). The incident took place at 2:50 pm on Friday. Now, the Aligarh Police woman shot video is doing rounds on social media and netizens have been demanding an impartial probe and strict action against the Police personnel.
The woman has been identified as Ishrat and she has been rushed to a hospital, where her condition is said to be critical. She is currently undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College. Reports quoted Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Principal Dr Manzoor Harris Khan who informed, "The bullet is still lodged in her head. A decision to operate upon her is still being reviewed."
Aligarh SSP Naithani informed that the bullet hit Ishrat's back side of the head and the SI was suspended with immediate effect. A police field unit was investigating the CCTV footage.
It is pertinent to mention here that the victim's family has alleged that the woman was being harassed for money by the officer in charge of her passport verification. An argument followed and the officer shot her, claimed the family.
Jeeshan, a relative of the 55-year-old injured woman was quoted saying, "She had visited the police station for passport enquiry. She was getting calls for money. Don't know who shot her. Don't know about the money demanded. There was an argument between them."
The SI has been identified as Manoj Sharma. Manoj Sharma has been suspended and a criminal case has been registered against him. As per reports, the woman was planning to visit Saudi Arabia for Umrah, a mini-pilgrimage.
