IT raids: Only Rs 1.36 lakh found in Stalin’s son-in-law residence

A day after Income Tax officials raided premises of DMK President M.K. Stalin's son-in-law, reports were received that only a sum of Rs 136,000 was found.

R.S. Bharathi, a Rajya Sabha member, speaking to reporters, today said the IT officials were able to find cash of Rs 136,000 at Sabareesan’s residence on Friday and they went back with disappointment.

He said the money IT officials found was kept at home for household expenses, there was nothing that points out discrepancies have been recovered or found at the premises of the DMK leader.

Senthamarai is married to V Sabareesan, who is said to have a major say in the DMK affairs.

Tax officials also searched Karthik, son of Mohan, DMK's Anna Nagar constituency candidate and couple of other places belonging to persons connected with the DMK.

Reacting to the searches that went on till evening yesterday, Stalin tweeted, "With electoral loss confirmed and lacking people's support, the BJP is misusing its powers.We are not slaves like AIADMK to fall at the feet for such threats. Fearless. Daringly we will oppose," Stalin said.

In 2019 elections, the DMK and its allies won 38 out of 39 Lok Sabha seats on the anti-Modi campaign at a time when the BJP swept the polls in other parts of the country.
