The crop residue management has not only been playing acrucial role in curbing the stubble burning menace but also has been ensuringenormous benefits to the farmers who have been harvesting the stubble in thefields for past few years.


The farmers, who decompose the stubble in the fields, aresaving their money on the fertilizers and witnessing improved soil health andincreased fertility.


Jagraon's Agwar Pona village Farmer Lakhwinder Singh saysthat he has been managing stubble through in-situ technique for last fiveyears. "I have been using 20-percent less DAP and Urea in the field. Thesoil structure has been also improved considerably”, told Singh.


He added that he has been using paddy stubble chopper toharvest residue in the soil due to which yield of potato crop has beenincreased considerably besides dependence on the fertilizers has also beenreduced.


While sharing his experiences regarding the benefits ofstubble management, he felt that the hardness in soil and improved soil healthbesides the yield of wheat, moong and as well as potato increasedsignificantly.


Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) Dr Raminder Singhsaid if all farmers adopt these techniques, they can save crores of rupees theyincur on purchasing nutrients like, nitrogen, phosphorus and potash.


He said management of paddy stubble will add upsubstantial amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potash. Singh said residues helpto protect the soil from wind and water erosion and keep the soil cool bypreserving precious water.


Exhorting the farmers to adopt in-situ crop residuemanagement wholeheartedly to manage the stubble, Sharma said that burning ofpaddy stubble is very hazardous for the farmers and land, which is consideredmother by our agriculturalists. He said that burning of paddy ruins the healthof soil besides casting a castigating effect on the environment.


He added that due to burning of paddy stubble, severalmajor and micro nutrients of soil get destroyed adding that the burning ofpaddy stubble produces several poisonous gases which have adverse effect onhuman health.
