Family members of Punjab’s most wanted gangster Jaipal Bhullar, who was killed by West Bengal Police in an encounter on June 9 in Kolkata, refused to cremate the body citing they have found multiple fractures and injuries all over his body. They alleged that the encounter was ‘staged’ and demanded a thorough investigation in the matter.

The family also said they will first send the body for postmortem as they have found multiple fractures over his body. They submitted a letter to the DC Ferozpur demanding a second postmortem in Ferozpur itself.

Jaipal’s family also alleged that they were harassed by Punjab Police and made to wait for long hours and it was only after media’s pressure that the body was handed over to them.

Bhupinder Singh, retired Assistant-Sub-Inspector from Punjab police, father of Jaipal, while talking to media persons, said that the family has decided not to cremate the body until we get another postmortem done. “There are multiple injuries all over his body which reveals that the entire encounter was staged”, he said.

He said after seeing the Jaipal’s corpse it is clear that he was first tortured and later shot dead. “I don’t blame the entire Punjab Police for this but there are some officials who for the sake of promotions and fame stage such encounters”, he added.

Meanwhile, the Ferozpur Administration and Punjab Police have denied permission over re-conducting postmortem. Heavy police force have been deployed outside Jaipal Bhullar's house in Ferozpur and the entire area has been sealed.
