Prominent industrialist & Hockey India Vice President Nitin Kohli on Thursday joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Following this, Nitin Kohli was appointed as Jalandhar Central Halqa Incharge (Constituency Head). The announcement follows the recent arrest of sitting MLA Raman Arora in a corruption case, which left a leadership vacuum in the constituency. The induction ceremony was held at the Radisson Hotel in Jalandhar at 1:00 PM and was attended by key AAP leaders, including AAP Punjab Incharge Manish Sisodia, AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, Working President Sherry Kalsi, and Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat.
In his first remarks after assuming the role of AAP’s Halqa Incharge for Jalandhar Central, Nitin Kohli, talking to True Scoop, laid out his development-focused vision for the city, emphasizing that all initiatives will be aimed at the welfare of the public and in line with the party’s direction.
“Whatever benefits the city, we will pursue it. And whatever the party’s stand is, we will follow that,” said Kohli. He revealed that two major Special Economic Zone (SEZ) projects are already underway. One for the leather industry and another for the sports sector, and the work on the Sports SEZ is already in an advanced stage.
AAP leader Nitin Kohli stressed the urgent need to get both SEZs sanctioned, noting the critical role they play in reviving local industry. “The leather trade has shifted to Kanpur. We will try to bring that business back to Punjab,” he added. He reaffirmed his commitment to resolving public grievances and driving development work across the city.
For the unversed, Special Economic Zones (SEZs) offer a range of benefits, including tax exemptions, duty-free imports, and streamlined regulations, making them attractive to businesses seeking to expand or establish operations.
On the topic of MLA Raman Arora, Kohli maintained a forward-looking stance. He said, "He is gone, so let’s not discuss that. But the issues faced by people will definitely be addressed."
