
Jalandhar, February 26-With an aim to make Jalandhar adrug-free city, the Commissionerate Police has recently launched a massivecrackdown against the drug menace by initiating a special drive.
Divulging the details, Commissioner of Police Mr GurpreetSingh Bhullar said that police have taken slew of measures to break the nexusof drug smugglers . He said that during this special drive as many as 25 FIRshave been lodged, and a total of 32 accused were arrested under the NDPS Actwith huge recovery of drugs. The police have recovered consignments of drugsincluding 237 gram heroin, 6 KG 230 gm opium, 4.50 quintal poppy-husk, and 4700gm Ganja.
The CP said that a massive search operation was launched bythe police department in the drug-sensitive areas, where special teams hadcordoned off the area to carry out their search drive. Similarly, anotheroperation was initiated to check the medical stores under which several medicalshops have been checked jointly by police and health departments. Mr. Bhullarsaid that the police have arrested as many as 12 proclaimed offenders wanted inthe cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances(NDPS) Act.

He further added that preventive actions against the drugsuppliers were launched under section 107/151/110 of C.R.P.C. besides preparingdetention proposals against the eight habitual offenders. The Commissioner ofPolice stated that action to seize properties of three drug suppliers has alsobeen started by the department under section 68-F of the NDPS Act.
Mr. Bhullar said that since the framework of the waragainst drugs has already been set up now the final blow was beinggiven to wipe out this menace. He reiterated that no stone would be leftunturned for making this drive against drugs a huge success.
The Commissioner of Police further said that joint effortswere being made to ensure that drugs menace was controlled effectively inthe city. Soliciting fulsome support and cooperation from the masses, he saidthat this war against drugs could not be successful without theirparticipation.
