Jalandhar: The city police of Jalandhar have arrested former councillor and senior Congress leader Vijay Dakoha in connection with a land dispute. The arrest was confirmed by SHO Parminder Singh Thind of Rama Mandi Police Station. According to reports, Dakoha was taken into custody over a long-standing dispute related to a piece of land. Following his arrest, Dakoha was presented in court and has been sent to jail.
Land Dispute Involving Religious Site
Sources reveal that the dispute revolves around land belonging to a religious site, which has been a contentious issue for some time. The case was already being heard in court, but despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Vijay Dakoha allegedly initiated construction on the disputed land. After receiving a complaint, the police conducted an investigation, leading to Dakoha’s arrest.
Congress Leaders Express Anger Over the Arrest
Following the arrest, several Congress leaders expressed outrage, accusing the police of acting under political pressure. Jalandhar Congress urban president and former MLA Rajinder Beri voiced strong opposition, accusing the police of high-handedness and harassment. He stated that many senior Congress leaders are currently preoccupied with elections in Jammu and Kashmir, and the police are taking advantage of their absence to target party members.
SHO Parminder Singh Thind confirmed that after Dakoha’s arrest, he was presented in court and subsequently sent to jail. The incident has sparked tension within the Congress party, with further responses expected in the coming days.
