Jalandhar Police impose fine worth Rs 7.35 lakh on 735 persons for not wearing masks, 4 FIRs lodged

Appealing the people to strictly adhere to guidelines issued by state government to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the violators of the government protocol are being dealt with a heavy hand.

The CP said that keeping in view the resurgence in Covid-19 cases, police have already intensified the drive against such violators and 735 challans to the people who were not wearing the mask, under the 'Mission Fateh' and imposed a fine of Rs 7,35,000 on the violators by 7pm on Wednesday.

He added that four FIRs have been lodged against the violators under India Epidemic Act and section 188 of IPC. He stated that 206 traffic challans to various offenders have been issued besides seizure of four vehicles under this special drive. The Commissioner of Police said that this drive would continue in the coming days and action would be taken against the violators adding that the people have to play a vital role for further checking the spread of COVID 19.

He appealed to the people to mandatory wear masks and to follow the directives of the government to halt the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr. Bhullar said that district administration was keeping a vigil over the gatherings in the district and action would be taken against those violating these norms.
