Kanchan Sharma, maternal grandmother of Akhil Sharma said, “Although I was not present at the scene when the incident took place, one thing that I am sure about is that only half side of the story is being revealed to the public.” She further added that only a few days back Akhil’s factory caught fire due to which he was depressed and to cheer him up, his friends got him to the PPR Market. She did not deny the fact that Akhil was drunk. Furthermore, she said as a lot of checking was going on in the PPR Market due to Dussehra, his vehicle was also stopped by the police for checking.

She impressed upon the point, “when Akhil put the window down and as he was a bit drunk, the police grabbed him from the collar to get him out of the car. As the car was on and he tried to move his car, the police officer also got some bruises.” She then said that as he got out of the car, a police official thrashed him at first after which he also got angry and the verbal spat turned into a physical fight.

She accepted that her grandson might also have made some mistake as he was drunk but alleged that the sections under which the police have booked Akhil are illegitimate and some of them are even baseless. It would be pertinent to inform that a case has been registered against the accused under FIR No. 164/353, 186, 332, 333, 506, 294 sections.

Kanchan Sharma in the end stated that she is not denying the fact that her grandson might have created some ruckus in the PPR Market as he was a bit drunk, but she has surely alleged that the police also tried to thrash Akhil and have exaggerated the incident a lot more than the reality.

This is not the very first time anything like this has taken place in Punjab. This is the second case that has come forward within two days. Earlier also, a shop owner got badly injured as some miscreants hurled bottles at him.
