Jalandhar traffic eases to normal after farmers end hour-long protest against the demolition of houses in Latifpura

Protesting against the demolition of houses of people in Latifpura, farmers alongside social outfits and the residents staged a dharna blocking a crucial highway leading to an entire halt of traffic in the city for over two hours which eased down by 2 PM in the afternoon.

The notice of call for protest was handed over to the administration well in advance by the farmers besides initiating talks with the Deputy Commissioner over the settlement of their outstanding call, however, that couldn’t be happened owing to different reasons.

The farmers with social service organizations and the people of Latifpura have blocked both lanes of the Jalandhar-Delhi highway. People sitting on the highway jamming in protest against the demolition of houses abided by their call to sit in over protest up until two.

Leaving by the call of demand from the government saying that, If the government does not provide houses to Latifpura’s residents then they will erect a pucca barricading on the highway.

Farmers came out in favor of the victims to protest against the demolition of the houses of the people who came from Pakistan to Latifpura at the time of partition by the Improvement Trust. Recently, farmers had taken out a rally in Jalandhar city associated with the matter of the people of Latifpura and social service organizations. Owing to the success of the rally these farmers gave a call for a bandh on January 1st.

At PAP Chowk in Jalandhar city today, the farmers called a sit-in protest in support of the residents of Latifpura. In view of this, the police stopped the farmers coming in their vehicles and tractor-trolleys from different places around the city.

After farmers were denied entry into Jalandhar, they opted to sit for the Dharna itself. They blocked the roads of the city's Lamma Pind Chowk, Cantt leading to a lot of problems for those commuting in and out of the city.
