Niranjan Singh, Deputy Director, Enforcement Directorate, Jalandhar, on Monday took to social media site facebook to report the lackadaisical attitude of the Municipal Corporation in Jalandhar.

In his long post, he expressed his concerns over the ignorant attitude of the MCJ citing that they owe no answer, no accountability, no responsibility and no sensitivity to anyone.

He posted a video of a small patch of road in Green Model Town, Jalandhar where he resides, saying that the road after been dug up for the repairing work nearly a month back, has been forgotten by the authorities concerned.

He said even sewerage and water lines were also damaged by the staff of the MCJ during the process of digging up the road causing severe inconvenience to the residents.

He added that people residing there are facing difficulties as it has become difficult for them to move out or enter their homes. “This work should have taken only two to three days to complete. It is pathetic to see that the concerned authorities including the Commissioner, MCJ, local MLA and the local Councillor are behaving as if they are the feudal lords and they are not accountable to anyone”, he said.

He further said that these concerned authorities have to change their mindset as they are accountable for their actions/ inactions. “In many western countries, railway flyovers are built in 24 hrs to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the public. Sometimes, I have to come or depart at odd hours for official work but the conditions of the road damaged by the MCJ, make it difficult to move. Are any superior authorities listening?”, said Singh in his social media post.

Meanwhile, the post of the ED official drew good response from the city residents as they jumped on to share similar experiences.

The residents said that the patch work carried out to fill potholes and repair broken stretches in the city did not last even a month. Besides, even after repeated complaints, the officials concerned hardly pay any heed to damaged roads, which pose a serious threat to commuters.
