The Franco-Swiss director Jean Luc-Godard, considered to be the godfather of French New Wave Cinema passed away aged 91, The French media reported with inputs from sources close to the director.

Born in a Franco-Swiss wealthy family on December 3rd, 1930, Godard was among the world’s most recognized directors, he was renowned for his classics such as Breathless and Contempt, and the initiation of the filmmaking movement revolutionized the cinematic future for good.

His movies worked in sync with the established conventions of French cinema in the 1960s and helped propel a new journey of filmmaking, with a handheld camera work, alongside jump cuts and dialogues existential in nature.

The legendary Quentin Tarantino, who directed the classics like Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs in the 1990s, is considered as the man from the recent generation who carried forward the journey of Godard that the latter and few others initiated decades back.

The legendary director was married to actor Anna Karina from 1961-1965. The star couple was seen in some of the most iconic screen collaborations, including in Vivre sa vie in 1962, Bande à part in 1964, and the 1965’s classic Pierrot le Fou.

With several accolades in his credits, Godard was not everyone’s hero, Canadian director Xavier Dolan at 25 shared a picture with Godard who was in his 80s as the former called him "the grinchy old man" and "no hero of mine".

Godard’s father was a doctor and his mother came from a Swiss family who founded Banque Paribas, an illustrious Bank for investment during the time.
