Joe Root scored a massive double hundred to help England recover and take a 101-run lead in the must-win 2nd Test of the ongoing 2-match series in New Zealand. Joe Root's score of 226 makes him the 1st visiting captain to score a double hundred in New Zealand. He is also only the 4th England captain to score a 200-plus score in overseas Tests.

Joe Root joins an elite list of England captains. Len Hutton became the 1st England captain to score a double hundred in away Tests when he hit 205 in 1954 in Kingston. Ted Dexter followed suite by scoring 2015 in 1962 in Karachi.
