Since the commencement of the Coronavirus pandemic, only virtual hearings are taking place in Supreme Court.

Justice DY Chandrachud is also heading the bench that is hearing the suo moto case on Center’s Covid19 management. In the hearing, the Bench had raised questions on the Centre’s dual policy for procurement of Covid19 vaccines. The Bench includes Justice L Nageswara Rao and Ravindra Bhat along with Justice Chandrachud.

“Centre says it gets low price since it buys in bulk. If this is the rationale, then why do states have to pay a higher price? There needs to be one price for vaccines across the nation. The pandemic has evolved in the last two months,” observed the bench in yesterday’s hearing.

Meanwhile, the government has shown confidence in vaccinating all of India’s population by the end of 2021. But, the Supreme Court has pointed out problems in the Centre’s commitments like discrepancy in vaccine supply of different age groups.
