Sant Kabir Das’s Dohas

Bada hua to kya hua, jaise ped khajoor,

Panthi ko chhaya nahi, fal laage ati duur.

Meaning- Being big is no good if you can’t help others. Even a palm tree is huge but is of no use to an exhausted traveler as it neither provides shade, nor fruit.

Dukh mein sumiran sab kare, sukh mein kare na koi,

Jo such mein sumiran kare, to dukh kaahe ko hoye.

Meaning- Everyone prays to God when in crisis or sorrow. But none does the same in joy. One who prays to God even in joy will never experience sorrow.
