Kapurthala police bust Nepal-linked drug racked, 3 smugglers arrested, 15kg Ganja seized

Continuing its drive to wipe out the drug menace from Kapurthala district, the police busted an international drug racket across India and Nepal involved in smuggling Ganja and arrested three persons besides seizing 15 Kg of the drug from their possession.

The arrested accused have been identified as Avtar Singh of Bhagalpur, Bihar now living in Jalandhar's Ashok Nagar, Lakhwinder Singh alias Gora and Gurpreet Singh of Chhota Surtanpur, Chamkaur Sahib, Rupnagar.


Disclosing more information, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that the several teams were formed under the supervision SP Phagwara Sarbjeet Singh Bahia along with DSP Paramjit Singh to keep a vigil on the activities of anti-social elements in the district.

SSP said that on tip-off, a police party led by CIA Staff head Inspector Sikander Singh, ASI Paramjit Singh along with police party was patrolling near Phagwara bypass stopped a private passenger bus (PB12-J-9252) coming towards SBS Nagar (Nawanshahar) and seized 15-Kg Ganja hidden in a plastic packets being carried by the accused in the bus.

The police team arrested the three of them and registered a case against them under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

SSP said during preliminary investigation, it has come to fore that the consignment of the drug was being smuggled from Nepal and three of them had links with peddlers of Nepal and Bihar. In preliminary interrogation accused confessed that this drug (Ganja) came from Nepal to India into his district which is just 200-kms away from international boundary, he added.

HPS Khakh told that the arrested smugglers would be produced before the magistrate by the police and police remand of them would be sought to further investigate the matter and trace out the links.
