Continuing its drive to wipe out the drug menace fromKapurthala district, the police busted an international drug racket acrossIndia and Nepal involved in smuggling Ganja and arrested three persons besidesseizing 15 Kg of the drug from their possession.

The arrested accused have been identified as Avtar Singhof Bhagalpur, Bihar now living in Jalandhar's Ashok Nagar, Lakhwinder Singhalias Gora and Gurpreet Singh of Chhota Surtanpur, Chamkaur Sahib, Rupnagar.

Disclosing more information, Senior Superintendent ofPolice (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that the several teams were formedunder the supervision SP Phagwara Sarbjeet Singh Bahia along with DSP ParamjitSingh to keep a vigil on the activities of anti-social elements in thedistrict.

SSP said that on tip-off, a police party led by CIA Staffhead Inspector Sikander Singh, ASI Paramjit Singh along with police party waspatrolling near Phagwara bypass stopped a private passenger bus (PB12-J-9252)coming towards SBS Nagar (Nawanshahar) and seized 15-Kg Ganja hidden in aplastic packets being carried by the accused in the bus.

The police team arrested the three of them and registereda case against them under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

SSP said during preliminary investigation, it has come tofore that the consignment of the drug was being smuggled from Nepal and threeof them had links with peddlers of Nepal and Bihar. In preliminaryinterrogation accused confessed that this drug (Ganja) came from Nepal to Indiainto his district which is just 200-kms away from international boundary, headded.

HPS Khakh told that the arrested smugglers would beproduced before the magistrate by the police and police remand of them would besought to further investigate the matter and trace out the links.

We would bust the entire supply line and each and everyperson involved in the network would be arrested,” added the SSP.
