Sunjay Kapur, the industrialist and ex-husband of the Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, died at 53 on Thursday, 12 June 2025, due to a heart attack. The tragic incident happened in the UK when he was playing Polo.
The late industrialist shared his condolences for the Air India crash just hours before the tragedy. Kareena Kapoor, Malika Arora, and Saif Ali Khan visited Karisma to offer support.

Sunjay Kapur, the chairman of the automotive company Sona Comstar, passed away at 53 after suffering a fatal heart attack. According to a news wire, his business consultant, Suhel Seth, confirmed the news of Sunjay suffering a cardiac arrest, which led to his tragic death, apparently triggered by a bee entering his mouth.
Sunjay was playing Polo, and during the match, a bee flew into his mouth while riding the horse. This triggered a cardiac arrest, and despite quick medical help, his condition worsened.

In a heartbreaking coincidence, just hours before his passing, Sunjay expressed his condolences on the Air India Crash, a tragic incident that happened on the same day in Ahmedabad, when a London-bound Air India flight, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with 242 people on board, crashed into a Ahmedabad college hostel, reportedly killing over 240. Sunjay Kapur took to X, with his final tweet reading. “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. #planecrash.”
Just hours after expressing his condolences for the affected families, he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest, leading to his unfortunate death.
“Progress demands bold choices, not perfect conditions. Your time on earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers instead, dive headfirst into the ‘why nots’.” Just a few days before his tragic death, he posted this on X, coincidentally, mentioning ‘Your time on earth is limited’.
Kareena Kapoor and others offered support
Later on Thursday night, Kareena Kapoor and her husband, Saif Ali Khan, were seen arriving at Karisma’s house in Mumbai. Malika Arora, accompanied by her sister, Amrita Arora’s husband, and son, also visited Karisma’s house to offer condolences and support to her in the difficult hour. Paparazzi page, Viralbhayani, shared photos and videos of Kareena and Malika looking somber as they sat quietly in the car.

Sunjay married the famous Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor in 2003, and their relationship was often in the public eye, but ended with a high-profile divorce in 2016. Despite the divorce, Karisma and their children were in a mutually respectful relationship; he even hired a parental advice assistant to be a good father to the children from his previous and current marriage, as he said in an interview.
