Kazakhstan: Nine died, dozens wounded by blasts at Kazakh military area

After bomb blasts in Afghanistan, Kazakhstan has also witnessed bomb blasts near the near military warehouse.

After Afghanistan, Kazakhstan has also witnessed a bomb blast in the city of Taraz, near military camps. Like Afghanistan’s bomb blast, ISIS had claimed accountability for this blast as well. 

According to the Defense Ministry of Kazakhstan, the bomb blast has claimed the lives of nine residents and dozens of people have been wounded. Reportedly, a military warehouse caught fire because of this bomb attack. 

Kazakh Defense Ministry stated, “At approximately 13:00 GMT, a fire broke out near a warehouse of a military unit stationed in the Zhambyl region's Bayzak district. As a result of the fire, unidentified objects exploded.”

On Thursday, Kazakh authorities said that residents of Zhambyl province have been evacuated after it was rocked by a series of powerful blasts that wounded at least 60 people. The provincial government said, “Sixty people have been hospitalized with injuries from the blasts.”

President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev tweeted, “The ministers of defense, emergency situations, the deputy minister of internal affairs flew to the Zhambyl region. A decision was made to evacuate residents of nearby villages. About 30 employees of the regional emergency department and servicemen were injured.”

Videos present on the internet showed that the explosion took place near a major road connecting provincial centre Taraz to Almaty, the country's business hub and biggest city.
