Kerala native Soumya Santosh's body to arrive from Israel to India today

Union minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan tweeted that he will personally receive Soumya Santhosh dead body in Delhi before it reaches her native place in Kerala on Saturday.

The mortal remains of Soumya Santhosh, an Indian native from Kerala will arrive in India today from Israel, informed Union minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan said on Friday.

 

Soumya, 32, was killed in an airstrike attack in Israel in the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestine-based Hamas. She was working in Israel as a caregiver for the last seven years. A native of Idukki, she lost her life on Tuesday when the building she was residing in the city of Ashkelon, was hit by a rocket fired by the Hamas militants. When the rocket hit the building, Soumya was on a video call with her husband. 

"The mortal remains of Ms Soumya Santhosh, who was killed in rocket attacks from Gaza, are being repatriated today from Israel to Kerala through Delhi. They will reach her native place tomorrow," Muraleedharan tweeted, adding that he will personally receive Santhosh's remains in Delhi.

Earlier this week, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said he is in contact with the external affairs ministry and the embassy of Israel in Delhi to bring back Soumya’s dead body. 

Israel's deputy chief of mission to India, Rony Yedidia Clein, on Thursday stated that the Israeli authorities will take responsibility for Santhosh’s family; she is survived by a nine-year-old son.

Israel ambassador to India, Ron Malka, too, reached out to Soumya’s family, extending his condolences to her dear ones.
