In a major political development, the three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) re-investigating the 2015 Kotkapura firing incident has summoned Former Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal on June 16.

The newly constituted SIT, comprising ADGP, Vigilance Bureau, L.K. Yadav, Ludhiana's Commissioner of Police, Rakesh Agarwal, and DIG, Faridkot Range, Surjit Singh, has summoned then CM Parkash Singh Badal  to investigate the two FIRs (dated October 14, 2015 and August 7, 2018) registered in connection with the firing incidents at Kotkapura city police station.

The newly constituted SIT has earlier questioned top cops, including the then DGP, Sumedh Singh Saini in the case. The SIT sent the notice to Former CM Prakash Singh Badal on Saturday evening.

The SIT has also filed an application in the Faridkot court seeking permission to conduct narco test on former DGP Sumedh Saini, IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal and former SSP Charanjit Sharma.

Meanwhile, the notice sent to Senior Badal reads, “You are hereby called upon to appear in person along with relevant record before the SIT on 16/6/2021 at 10.30 a.m at PSPCL rest house at Mohali for investigation in above said cases.”

Prakash Singh Badal was the CM when the police opened fire on protesters in October 2015. The SIT has now summoned him to investigate whether who gave the orders to open fire, and if cops fired in self-defence and standard operating procedure was followed or not.
