
Canadian actress-filmmaker, Shreya Patel who has so far worked internationally on projects like Netflix’s Grand Army, Hulu’s Handmaid’s Tale and FX’s Mrs. Americais now all set to start shooting her new mockumentary web series ‘Layla is Relevant’ in August.
Besides, the actress has signed several Indian shows and documentaries in no time, taking her career to full swing. As per the source, the premiere episode of the show ‘Lalya is Relevant’will be shot in August 2021, accompanied by the rest of the episodes.
Telling the media bout her excitement regarding the new project, the actress said, “I am most enthusiastic about digital mockumentary series Layla is Relevant that tells the storyof a very ambitious girl.” The lead role of mockumentary Layla Khan is a former child star and current nobody. Describing her portrayal of the character, the actress told, “Layla moves back in with her stubbornsingle mom and her snarky gamer cousin in an attempt to reboot her career through a self-created, self-released reality series. The series will explore Layal realizing that she is not unhappy because she’s not famous.In fact, she is lonely.”
Besides being the actor in the series, Shreya is also co-creator and co-writer with Rabiya Mansoor. The series will be directed by Shetu Modi, who has spent 10 years of her life editingdocumentaries and feature films in a newsroom. Shetu Modi says, “Sometimes the characters do or say the most compelling things while their mics are being attached, or when they are walking into a planned shot. Whilemockumentary is a little different from documentaries because it’s fiction, it’s still an opportunity to let actors improvise and to allow room for off-the-cuff, unplanned moments.”
Shreya Patel and Rabiya Mansoor’s mockumentary ‘Layla is Relevant’ is expected to release the trailer and pilot by September.
Apart from this mockumentary, Shreya is leading in the film ‘Strangers in a Room’. The film is directed by Andre Rehal and will tell the story of a veteran second-generationKorean actor who exiles himself in his apartment after a bad audition. Shreya Patel is also working on a documentary title ‘Eakk’ as a creative editor. The documentary is about Transgender rights and educationin India.
