Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a Gujarati filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, and music director best known for his work in Hindi cinema. He was born on February 24, 1963. Sanjay Leela Bhansali was born into a Gujarati Jain family in Bhuleshwar, South Mumbai. Today he completed his 25 yrs in Bollywood.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been surrounded by performers and directors since his father was a producer. This is when he developed an interest in direction and chose to pursue a career as a director while he was only in second grade. His father, however, did not become a successful producer and was well aware of the industry's difficulties. So, based on his expertise, he recommended him to choose another profession.

With Khamoshi- The Musical (1996), Bhansali made his directorial debut, winning the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film. With the financially successful romance film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), and the epic love drama Devdas (2002) — for which he got a nomination for Best Film Not in the English Language at the British Academy of Film & Television Awards — he came to fame in Hindi-language cinema.

He earned several Best Director and Best Film Awards, as well as a Critics Award for Best Best Film for the drama Black (2005), at the Filmfare Awards, for all of which he received multiple Best Director and Best Film Awards.

Well the time is not always the same. Bhansali directed a string of commercially unsuccessful films, including Saawariya (2007) and Guzaarish (2010), however Guzaarish got good critical and public reviews.

When his tragic romance version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), released, this changed to great reviews and strong box office collections, earning him numerous accolades and nominations.

He won his third National Film Award for his home-produced biographical sports film Mary Kom (2014). Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018), both historical dramas, are among the top-grossing Indian films of all time. He received the National Film Award for Best Direction, as well as Filmfare Awards for Best Director and Best Film, for the former, and the National Film Award for Best Film for the latter.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an alumnus of the India's Film and Television Institute. He is awarded with several awards, including four National Film Awards, 10 Filmfare Awards, and a BAFTA nomination.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is still single and unmarried. Though there were reports that he was dating choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant at one point. They've known each other for a long time, but they were drawn to each other while filming Saawariya. When she went into a movie premiere with his mother and sister, it was clear that there was more to her than professionalism.


Sanjay wanted his mother's approval before they could take their relationship to the next level, so they kept their connection secret at first. However, the claimed pair quickly recognised that they were not meant to be together and split up. They are still very fond of each other and consider each other to be excellent friends despite not being in a relationship.

While filming Padmavat in 2017, he was reportedly beaten up by a few members of the "Karni Sena." This occurred as a result of the community's outrage at his supposed love scenes between Padmavat and Alauddin Khilji. Sanjay later clarified the situation, stating that all reports of love moments or intimate sequences are only rumours.In the same event, an enraged guy set fire to the main stage and destroyed the automobiles parked around the sets. According to accounts, this event also resulted in the injury of a horse.

In November of the same year, the Karni Sena staged a massive protest to prevent the film's distribution. However, when the film's title was changed from Padmavati to Padmavat, everything fell into place.

Actors like Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, and Shahrukh Khan are never at a short for words when it comes to describing this remarkable individual. He has provided the box office several great films throughout the years that still give people chills when they watch them.

Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, a biographical crime film based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, will be released in 2021. The film Gangubai Kothewali, starring Alia Bhatt as Gangubai, is set to be released on July 30, 2021.
