District Magistrate-cum-Deputy CommissionerVarinder Kumar Sharma have informed that due to high number of COVID19 positivecases found in Urban estate phase 1, Dugri and Urban estate phase 2, Dugri ofLudhiana, the areas have been declaredas containment zones.
He said that these two areas will be sealed 100%(Lockdown) with effect from 9 pm today, i.e. on 18-4-2021 (Sunday) till furtherorders.
He said that a containment zone is formed when15 positive cases are reported in a particular area, but more than 70 caseswere reported in urban estate phase 1, Dugri and Urban estate phase 2, Dugri,Ludhiana recently.
He appealed to the residents of these two areasto make appropriate preparations accordingly in the interval period of next 7hours provided by the District Administration. He also urged residents tofollow all directions wear masks and avoid crowding or else the DistrictAdministration would be forced to take strict steps.
Meanwhile, Ludhiana is the first district inPunjab to impose lockdown and form containment zone after witnessing over 70cases in two particular areas. Sources say looking at the situation, the samecould be applied in other districts too if cases continue to surge.
Moreover, there seems to be no respite fromCovid19 cases in Punjab as the state in last 15 days have witnessed over 50,000cases. The worst-hit districts in Punjab are Mohali, Amritsar Ludhiana,Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur where over 300 cases are being reported on dailybasis.
