The India Meteorological Department (IMD) of Chandigarh unit on Tuesday made a new rainfall prediction for the state of Punjab. IMD Chandigarh, in its new rainfall prediction, has put multiple districts of Punjab on yellow alert. IMD has predicted that Punjab districts like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, etc, will receive heavy rainfall for 3 days. However, in the past, IMD Chandigarh's prediction has turned out to be wrong; still, with monsoon peaking in the state, the weather department has issued an alert. Punjab Rainfall Prediction July 8 to July 11

  • July 8- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Sangrur. 
  • July 9- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kaputhala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Sangrur. 
  • July 10- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Sangrur. 
  • July 11- No Rainfall
  • July 12- No Rainfall

Punjab Temperature

IMD Chandigarh also shared daily temperature briefing. As per the report, Fazilka was the hottest on July 7 with 36.2°C. Amritsar was 32.9°C, Ludhiana was 35°C, Patiala- 35.5°C, Pathankot- 34.7°C, Bathinda- 31.5°C, Jalandhar- 33.1°C, etc. 

How will the monsoon be in Punjab in July 2025?

The India Meteorological Department has forecast an above normal exceeding 106% of the Long Period Average (LPA), for the month of July 2025. Speaking at a virtual press conference organised by the weather agency on June 30, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology at IMD, stated that many parts of the country are likely to experience normal to above-normal rainfall. However, IMD also stated that most parts of Northeast India & many parts of East India, extreme South Peninsular India, and some areas of Northwest India are likely to receive below-normal rainfall. 

Notably, IMD Chandigarh on July 5 stated on X, "Weather Update 5 July'25:  Monsoon activity very likely to Increase Over Punjab Haryana & Chandigarh during 5 to 9 July. Heavy Rain very Likely at isolated places during this spell with Very Heavy Rain at isolated places on 6 & 7 July 2025. Details attached "
