The India Meteorological Department (IMD) of Chandigarh unit on Monday made a fresh rainfall prediction for the state of Punjab. Multiple districts of Punjab have been witnessing isolated thunderstorms for the past many days. The city of Jalandhar also witnessed torrential rainfall for more than 1 hour on Sunday morning. However, a bright sunny day then amped up the temperature in the city. For the past few days, IMD Chandigarh has been putting multiple districts of Punjab on an orange alert i.e. heavy to very heavy rainfall alert.

Punjab Thunderstorm Prediction
- July 7- All districts are on thunderstorm alert. Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Sangrur (on orange alert). The rest are on yellow alert.
- July 8- All districts are on thunderstorm alert. Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar (on orange alert). The rest are on yellow alert.
- July 9- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala (On Yellow Alert)
- July 10- Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar (On Yellow Alert)
- July 11- No Rainfall
Punjab Temperature
As per IMD Chandigarh's daily temperature recordings, Bathinda was the hottest district in Punjab on July 6. Bathinda recorded 35°C, Amritsar- 30.8°C, Ludhiana- 33.4°C, Patiala- 34°C, Pathankot- 30.5°C, Gurdaspur- 33°C, Jalandhar- 33.2°C, Mohali- 32.6°C, etc.
How will the monsoon be in July 2025?
The India Meteorological Department has forecast an above normal exceeding 106% of the Long Period Average (LPA), for the month of July 2025. Speaking at a virtual press conference organised by the weather agency on June 30, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology at IMD, stated that many parts of the country are likely to experience normal to above-normal rainfall. However, IMD also stated that most parts of Northeast India & many parts of East India, extreme South Peninsular India, and some areas of Northwest India are likely to receive below-normal rainfall.
Notably, IMD Chandigarh on July 5 stated on X, "Weather Update 5 July'25: Monsoon activity very likely to Increase Over Punjab Haryana & Chandigarh during 5 to 9 July. Heavy Rain very Likely at isolated places during this spell with Very Heavy Rain at isolated places on 6 & 7 July 2025. Details attached "
