Ludhiana property dealer kills 4 of his family members then absconds

In another horrendous incident, a 60-year-old Ludhiana property dealer has killed 4 of his family members by slitting their throats with an axe. The incident took place at the Mayur Vihar area here on Tuesday at around 6:30 am. 

The accused has been identified as Rajiv Soonda who claimed the life of his wife, Sunita (55); son, Ashish (35); Ashish's wife, Garima, and their 13-year-old son. 

Post committing the crime, Rajiv fled in his Swift car and later burnt the vehicle on Hambran Road.

On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and started an investigation. As per the preliminary probe, the accused dispute with his son's in-laws is said to be the cause of the killings, however, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained. 

According to Additional DCP-1 Sameer Verma, the incident occurred at around 6.30 am. The police and forensic officials reached the spot.

The ADCP further said the accused had an altercation with the family members in the morning following which his daughter-in-law Garima called her parents to inform them about the situation. Garima had asked her parents to reach her home as his father-in-law grew agitated after she apprehended him.

Reportedly, Garima's parents reached her home and were received by the accused, who asked them to come inside and sit before absconding in his car. 

Divulging the further details, ADCP said, Garima's parents were shocked to see the family members lying dead inside. The bodies of the grandson and daughter-in-law of the accused were lying in one room, while the bodies of his wife and their son were lying in two other rooms, ADCP added. 

During the probe, police recovered the accused mobile phone along with the blood-stained axe used to kill from the house. The accused is yet to be arrested.
