Ludhiana registers first death due to deadly swine flu since 2019

As the third wave of Covid-19 is just on the brink, Ludhiana registers first death due to swine flu since 2019. A 59-year-old lady died in the Dayanand Medical Hospital.

On 15th August due to sudden weakness and body ache the lady was taken to Dayanand Medical Hospital where Civil Surgeon Dr. Kiran Ahluwalia confirmed it to be a case of swine flu. The lady died on Wednesday. The deceased was a resident of an area near Laxmi Cinema.

A high alert has been sounded in the area and the health department has advised people to stay away from densely populated areas if they feel any flu-like symptoms. The health department has also started prophylactic treatment of woman’s daughter, son-in-law and her grandchildren. Luckily, no symptoms are found in any of the family members. The health department has also started tracing people who were in contact with the deceased. 

Swine flu is a contagious respiratory infection caused by an influenza virus strain that starts from pigs. Civil Surgeon Dr. Kiran Ahluwalia told that fever, headache, chills, stomach ache, sore throat, body ache, cough, vomiting and weakness are few main symptoms of swine flu. A person with any of these symptoms must isolate themselves. She further added that anyone with these symptoms must contact the civil hospital for a free test.
