Expressingserious concern over the alarming rate of deaths in Ludhiana due to theCovid-19 pandemic, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday saidthat 168 people have lost their lives in the last seven days, 24 deaths per dayin Ludhiana and blamed casual and careless behaviour of some people arecontributing to the rapid surge in cases.

Interacting withpeople in his weekly Facebook live session on the official page of DPROLudhiana, the Deputy Commissioner said that those people who are still notobeying the Covid appropriate behaviour must think about the families of 168persons who died from May 7 to May 12.

“I am reallyworried and pained over the crowding of some people during relaxation timingsin Ludhiana”, Sharma said and added this irresponsibility has been provingfatal for others.

DeputyCommissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that all of us should learn fromhistory especially the time of the outbreak of Spanish flu and plague 100 yearsago and how our forefathers maintained isolation during their toughest time andwe are alive because of their seriousness towards the guidelines of thegovernments at that period.

He said that nowwe all must ensure meticulous adoption of proper isolation in our daily routineto contain the surge and secure the future.

Answering thequeries of people regarding the difference in relaxation timings of Jalandharand Ludhiana, he said that the situation in Ludhiana is more serious andcompletely different than the Jalandhar. He said that Jalandhar has alreadywitnessed a peak and cases are gradually on down there.

He said thatLudhiana is a bigger and most populated district of the state and itscomparison with other districts completely unwarranted.
