What happened earlier?

Last month, former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh wrote an eight-page letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray alleging that Deshmukh had called police officers to his official residence several times in the last few months and had directed now-suspended police officer Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore a month from bars, restaurants, and other establishments in Mumbai.

Deshmukh, however, refuted the allegations leveled on him and had termed as a conspiracy to taint the image of the state government.
