Massive landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur results in closing of NH 707, no casualties reported so far

So far, no casualties have been reported, however, thousands of tourists have been stranded due to the blocking of the national highway.

Himachal Pradesh is witnessing cloud bursts, flash floods, and landslides in several parts of the state in the past few days. Today, a massive landslide is reported in the Sirmour district.

The Paonta Sahib-Shillai national highway 707 was halted to vehicular traffic on July 30 after a 100-meter length of the road caved at Kali Dhank Badwas due to heavy rains in Sirmaur district for the past two days.

So far, no casualties have been reported, however, thousands of tourists have been stranded due to the blocking of the national highway.

A video of the disaster has gone viral on social media. In the video, people present at the location can be seen saving their lives by fleeing as the mountain began to slip.

After destroying the power lines that ran through the roadway, there was a power outage in the area, and the people who were present were narrowly rescued from being electrified.

According to police, a massive landslide occurred on the highway, and locals fled helter-skelter to save themselves.

Between Rajban and Sataun, another 200-meter stretch of the road caved in near Kachi Dhank near Rajban. Residents have been affected by the road's constant damage caused by rain for several years.

Puruwala- Kilod- Jong- Kafota- Shillai has been recommended for commuters travelling from Paonta Sahib to Shillai.

According to DSP Paonta Sahib Bir Bahadur, police officers have been stationed at the entrances to the highway from Paonta Sahib, Shillae, Rajban, Sataun, and other locations to notify passengers about alternate routes.

This monsoon season, Himachal Pradesh has witnessed a property of over Rs. 500 crores. In the last three days, around 21 people have lost their lives owing to natural disasters in the state. Over Rs100 crore loss has been reported in just two days.
