Nowadays, WhatsApp has become a go-to application as it has become one of the major mediums to communicate and stay connected. However, a recent update has come with bad news for some iPhone users. 

According to the recent update, iPhones that are running on the older versions of iOS will not be able to access the messaging application. The access will be banned beginning May 5, 2025. The announcement has mentioned that iPhones with iOS 15.1 or later will be able to support WhatsApp. 

The company has highlighted that the individual with an iPhone running iOS that is lower than 15.1 will lose complete access to the application, i.e., no message, no call, no notification. 

Which iPhones are expected to be affected? 

Expectedly, the iPhones which will no longer support WhatsApp are - 

  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 6, and
  • iPhone 6 Plus 

What is the reason behind incompatibility? 

According to Meta's announcement, the major reason behind this step is ‘security.’ It is believed that the older versions of iPhones could be exposed to possible security threats, which might result in more risk to users' data. 

What could be a possible way to operate WhatsApp? 

As per the recent situation, an individual must switch to the latest versions of iOS to continue using the messaging application. It is also suggested that people with iPhone 8, iPhone X, or other such models update their devices to the latest iOS version.
