The tensions between India and Pakistan have been rising every passing day, and amid this, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced that OTT platforms, media streaming applications, and digital intermediaries should act more firmly and strictly while presenting content in Pakistan.

According to the latest update by the Ministry, the platforms are advised to immediately remove all the web series, movies, songs, or any other digital content made in Pakistan, irrespective of whether it is paid or free. The update also noted that this new rule should be implemented immediately.

It is to be noted that this order was released after Operation Sindoor, as global tensions increased and the border area witnessed increased disturbance. It is to be noted that the recently conducted Operation Sindoor was a counterattack to the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed around 26 civilians.

While announcing the orders, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting mentioned, “In the interest of national security, all OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries operating in India are advised to discontinue the web-series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content, whether made available on a subscription based model or otherwise, having its origins in Pakistan with immediate effect.”

Ban on social media -

Prior to this announcement by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Indian government had banned social media accounts of several Pakistani actors and celebrities. Reportedly, the accounts of these celebrities were not opening in India after this restriction was implemented by the government, which also resulted in a massive downfall in their engagement, including likes, comments, and shares.
