Minnal Murali is a 2021 Indian Malayalam-language superhero adventure film directed by Basil Joseph and produced by Sophia Paul, under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters. Kerala has come up with India’s first great superhero movie.

Minnal Murali is based on a self-obsessed man Jaison (Tovino Thomas) who was busy finding out what to do in his life after his girlfriend dumps him. One night, thundering and lightning strike Jaison and Selvan. Jaison gets a superpower and becomes the Messiah of the masses. On the other hand, Selvan chooses a different path and becomes a destroyer.

The film was predominantly shot in Kerala, with few sequences being shot at Hassan in Karnataka. The music of the film was composed by Shaan Rahman and Sushin Shyam, with Shyam also composing the background score, whereas the cinematography of the film was handled by Sameer Thahir and editing done by Livingston Mathew.

Bollywood has delivered many films based on superheroes, from Krrish to Ra One, but Minnal Murali comes as a surprise. Director Basil Joseph, along with writers Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew has worked extremely well on the film’s screenplay.

The film is set in the village, depicts the parallel lives of Jaison and Selvan. With a perfect ending, the film has remarkably made efforts to grab the attention of the audience. A sequel of the movie can be expected.

The Basil Joseph film keeps things light and engaging. Also, Tovino Thomas makes an unexpected superhero. Despite the long runtime, Livingston Mathew’s editing makes the film light.
