In a massive development, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested on Wednesday by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau from his residence in Green Avenue, Amritsar. The arrest comes as part of a statewide anti-drug crackdown, with 25 simultaneous raids conducted across Punjab, including nine in Amritsar alone. 30 officers led by SSP Vigilance Amritsar Lakhbir Singh, reached Bikram Majithia's house early in the day. Bikram Majithia's wife and MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia strongly objected to the raid, accusing officers of forcibly entering their home and using excessive force.
Now, details have started to come in on Viglance's raid at Majithia's home. It has been learned that during the search operation at his Green Avenue residence in Amritsar, Vigilance officials reportedly seized a significant cache of electronic devices and documents. According to sources, the items recovered include: 29 mobile phones, 4 laptops, 2 iPads, 8 personal diaries, and several official and financial documents.
Vigilance has taken Bikram Majithia to Mohali for further questioning.
Though no official statement has been released yet, it has been revealed that Majithia has been arrested in a disproportionate assets case. Vigilance is yet to issue its official statement.
