Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday came down heavily on Congress-led I.N.D.I.A alliance for coining the term 'Vote Jihad'. Speaking at a poll rally in Gujarat's Anand.  PM Modi outlined that despite being highly educated, the Congress leader has urged the Muslim voters to unite and start Vote Jihad to overthrow the BJP Government in Lok Sabha Elections. While PM Modi has come under the scanner of the opposition and Election commissions for allegedly calling Muslims as Inflitrators, this time, the grand old party's candidate gave Lok Sabha Election 2024 a controversial angle. Below is what PM Modi said-

"INDI alliance has asked Muslims to go for Vote Jihad. This has come from an educated family, not from a child coming out of a Madrasa. INDI alliance is saying that all Muslims should get together and vote. The INDI alliance has insulted democracy and the Constitution...They have a tacit understanding. On one hand, the INDI alliance is trying to divide SC, ST, OBC and general categories and on the other, they are raising the slogan of Vote Jihad. This shows how dangerous their intentions are."

For the unversed, veteran Congress leader Salman Khurshid's niece Maria Alam during a rally appealed for "vote jihad", terming it as necessary in the current situation for the minority community to drive away the BJP government. Maria Alam was campaigning for Naval Kishore Shakya on Monday. Maria Alam called for a "vote jihad" in favour of the INDIA bloc candidate from Farrukhabad Lok Sabha seat.

As a result, taking cognisance of the remarks made by Maria Alam, a case was registered against her for violating the provisions of the IPC and Representation of People Act following a complaint made by the Flying Squad and Surveillance Team. A case was also registered against Salman Khurshid, who was the chief guest at the election meeting in Kaimganj.
