Morinda sacrilege: Lawyer attempts to attack accused in Rupnagar court with revolver, arrested

A man entered the Rupnagar Court premises tried to attack the Morinda sacrilege case accused, however, he was overpowered by the cops

The tense situation does not seem to be calm down in Ropar ever since the Morinda sacrilege incident has come to the limelight. On Thursday, a man entered a court in Punjab’s Rupnagar with a revolver when the accused Jasbir Singh was being produced in court after his two-day Police remand. Notably, the man who entered the Rupnagar Court premises tried to attack the Morinda sacrilege case accused, however, he was overpowered by the cops before he could do anything. As per reports, the man who tried to attack the accused was identified as Saheb Singh Khurl and he is a lawyer by profession who lives on Morinda. The Police have arrested Khurl and are currently questioning him over the incident. As per reports, Saheb Singh Khurl was upset and angry over the sacrilege incident at Gurdwara Sri Kotwali Sahib in Morinda.

For the unversed, tensions started to prevail in Morinda after a man named Jasbir tried to enter Gurdwara Sri Kotwali Sahib and attacked the Granthis (Priests). He even tried to throw the Holy book of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, however, he was later overpowered by people present nearby. Later, the Morinda sacrilege video went viral on social media in which Jasbir was seen jumping the railing of the sanctum sanctorum wearing shoes and started hitting the priests present there. However, True Scoop News did not share it as it could hurt religious sentiments. LaterJasbir was arrested and he was booked for hurting religious sentiments and attempting to murder.

It is pertinent to mention here that tense situations have been prevailing in Morinda. A day after the incident, small and big shops in the region were closed down and the Sikh Sangat staged protest demanding strict action against the accused. The Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura also took cognizance of the case and asked for strict action against the accused. As per Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura, incidents of sacrilege can be avoided if strict punishment should be given to the accused and fair investigations in such types of cases are conducted. Not only this, but The National Commission for Minorities has asked the Chief Secretary of Punjab to list all the cases of sacrilege in Punjab in the last 45 years.
