The Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested two most wantedgangsters and their aide during an intelligence-led operation carried out atvillage Chamiari in Ajnala, Amritsar. The Police have also recovered a largequantity of arms and ammunition from their possession.

The Gangsters, identified as Daya Singh alias PreetShekhon alias Preet alias Laddu of village Sanghna in Chattiwind and JarmanjitSingh alias Nikka Khaduria of Chamba Khurd in Tarn Taran is wanted in a doublea murder case in Patti that took place June 2021 in Tarn Taran as also in 2.5 kgGold Dacoity at Ludhiana that took place in 2020 besides other heinous crimes,including murders, attempts to murders, and various cases of car snatching andextortions.

The third accused identified as Gurlal Singh of villageKamalpur in Tarn Taran is a close aide of both gangsters and had facilitatedtheir shelter at his in-laws’ house in village Chamiari in Ajnala. Gurlal isout on parole and is also wanted in several criminal cases of murders andattempt to murder.

It has also been learnt from the sources that PreetSekhon has asked for a ransom from a renowned Punjabi singer, who residesin Canada. The gangster dialed the singer on July 2 and has asked for a sum ofRs 10 lakh. However, the singer did not respond to his alleged demands andpreferred to remain mum.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Dinkar Gupta saidthat both the gangsters, along with their Canada-based accomplice identified asLakhbir Singh alias Landa Patti, had been involved in making large number ofextortion and threat calls to a number of prominent businessmen andprofessionals, especially in Amritsar area. Landa Patti, a native of Patti? isat present in Canada and is also wanted in Patti double murder case.

Sharing details about the operation, he said thatfollowing a specific input, the Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) andAmritsar Rural Police carried out an operation to arrest both the gangsters.

He said that the operation was very challenging for thepolice, as the house in which the gangsters had taken shelter, was located in avery thickly populated village and input had also suggested that the family ofGurlal was also staying in the same house.

“As the police laid the siege, the gangsters opened fireat the police but exercising extreme restraint avoided any retaliatory fire topreclude chances of any injury to any local villager in the eventuality of anexchange of fire,” said DGP Dinkar Gupta, while adding that instead the policeopted for persuading the gangsters to surrender and for this they solicited thehelp of local villagers also.

He said that the police have also recovered a Swift Car,one .12 bore rifle, three .32 bore pistols, one .315 country-made pistol andone 9mm pistol along with ammunition besides three mobile phones and twodongles from their possession.         

Later, the police also arrested Gurlal from his house atKamalpur in Tarn Taran, added the DGP.
