Mumbai crime branch officers on Wednesday raided Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami's residence and arrested the journalist. Going by the republic reports, Arnab was assaulted in front of his family by the Mumbai crime branch officers.
While speculations were high that Arnab was arrested in the TRP Scam case. However, encounter specialist Sachin Vaze clarified that Arnab Goswami has been arrested in the abetment of a suicide case.
Arnab Goswami, editor-in-chief and managing director of Republic TV, was booked under charges of abetment to suicide after an interior decorator allegedly killed himself over non-payment of dues owed to him by the news channel in 2018.
However, the case was closed by the Mumbai Police and they had also filed its closure report. Vaze said that the Mumbai Police has reopened the 2018 case and evidence has been found against Goswami and therefore he has been arrested. Vaze also said that he has been taken to Alibagh after the arrest.
This step by Mumbai Police comes at a time when Arnab Goswami from the past few weeks was doing aggressive reporting against Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
