National Mathematics Day is observed on the birth anniversary of great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, every year. It is celebrated on December 22, since 2012. The day was declared by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to honour the great mathematician. This day celebrates his work and contribution to the field of mathematics.

The great mathematician was born in the year 1887 to a Tamil Brahmin Iyengar family at Erode, Tamil Nadu. Srinivasa Ramanujan showed the signs of a developing genius at a young age, and his contributions to fractions, infinite series, number theory, mathematical analysis, and other areas set a precedent in mathematics.

Srinivasa studied at the Government College in 1903 in Kumbakonam.

Some facts about this mathematician are as follows:-

1.) In 1912, he worked as a clerk in the Madras Port Trust.
